COVID, Co-Ventilation, and Cross-contamination

چکیده
Introduction: During the COVID-19 pandemic, consideration was given to co-ventilating multiple patients on a single ventilator. Prior work had shown that this procedure possible by ventilating four adult-size sheep for twenty-four hours, and other groups performed maneuver during dire circumstances. However, no investigation examined safety regarding cross-contamination. The purpose of our studies investigate if an infection could spread between individuals who were being co-ventilated. Method: Four sterile two-liter anesthesia bags connected sterilized ventilator circuit simulate co-ventilated patients’ “lungs.” utilized Heat Moisture Exchange filters bacterial/viral filters, which strategically inserted prevent transmission infectious droplets. Serratia marcescens inoculated into “lung” number one. then run 24 after each three additional points in cultured see S. spread. These cultures at 48 hours assess This entire total times. Results: not identified lungs two, three, or sampling sites expiratory limb tubing all trials. Conclusion: Cross-contamination did occur within utilizing described configuration.

Contamination and Cross Contamination on Hospital Surfaces and Medical Equipment
T he role of medical devices, such as bronchoscopes, in the transmission of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) has long been recognized, however, the evidence that environmental and medical equipment surfaces play a role in the transmission of HAIs has been weak. Studies have demonstrated that pathogens can be transmitted from surfaces to personnel and patients, and that these pathogens ar...
متن کاملDecay of airborne contamination and ventilation effectiveness of cleanrooms
This article reports an investigation into the ability of the air supply in non-unidirectional cleanrooms to aid recovery from episodes of airborne contamination, and minimise airborne contamination at important locations. The ISO 14644-3 (2005) recovery test, which measures the rate of decay of test particles, was assessed and a reinterpretation of the test results suggested. This allowed air ...
متن کاملModel for Buildings Cross Ventilation
Unlike many other engineering products, where a prototype model is built, tested and modified, buildings can only be examined after they are built. It is then too late to correct any design mistake. Therefore, architects depend on scaled models to simulate as close as possible the final product and test the design. The currently available approach for students as well as professionals to simula...
متن کاملTechnetium-99m DTPA aerosol contamination in lung ventilation studies.
UNLABELLED Contamination of working areas by 99mTc DTPA aerosol is of concern to nuclear medicine technologists. This study sought to determine the extent of 99mTc DTPA contamination to technologists, and to localize sources of aerosol leakage so that methods could be identified that would minimize contamination. METHODS Fifty to eighty millicuries 99mTc DTPA, diluted to a volume of 4-5 ml wi...
